Isn’t the Price We Pay for Space Exploration a Little High? It is so much fun to watch how science fiction stories become reality – like laser guns and genetic engineering. Due to all the talks about ecology, more and more plots tell us about some kind of huge disasters that threaten humankind and make the bravest go find a new shelter in the outer space. If you take ecological threats seriously, they seem to be good reasons for space exploration. Humankind has already been out of the Earth. It’s been over 50 years since then. And where have we gone so far? Not too far. The biggest use we are getting from space being explored is satellite communication, which was invented back during so called â€Å"arms race† – a long time ago. The path that space engineering has proceeded by during this half of century is too short if we compare it to mechanical engineering, for example: from first Benz’s bus with internal-combustion engine that could barely go 15mph to luxury cars of today. The reason I brought up this example is to prove that the amount of money that is spent on exploration of space is too big in comparison with the use it brings. As to the future dangers – we do not face them yet. And most of them seem to be just good examples of information manipulation. I have always stood for development of science. I think it is the driver of progress. There are so many spheres of our life that require rapid investigation and considerable money flows, that if compared to them, spending money on space exploration seems to be a waste.

Shakespeare shows that he is firstly a villain as he is spoken about in a conversation between Salarnio and Salerio. They describe him as dog Jew, automatically we see him as the bad man of the play. We then sympathize with Shylock as he tells us how he was poorly treated, You call me misbeliever, cut throat dog, and spit upon my Jewish gabardine. He states that Antonio had looked down on him, spat on him, turned his friends against him and prevented him from making business for the simple reason of being a Jew. Remembering in recent history of the Holocaust we sympathize with him. When the time comes that Antonio asks a favour of Shylock he immediately seeks revenge. In case Antonio does not pay back the 3,000 ducats that he is to borrow Shylock demands an equal pound of your fair flesh off and taken in what part of the body pleaseth me. Here our opinion of Shylock is a negative one, as he wants his flesh as pay back and a pound of flesh would be of no use to him. Our opinion then becomes stronger of Shylock being a villain as Jessica his daughter talk of living with him is like hell, our house is hell and thou a merry devil. Shylock then hears news of Antonios ships, and is delighted that it is wrecked, as then Antonio would not be able to pay him back. Then whiles talking too Salarnio he asks what use to him is the pound of flesh? Shylock answers to bait fish. This makes you think that what a pointless way to want flesh. He then says that a Jew is a lot like a Christian they have the same hands, organs, dimensions as humans, eat the same food, feel the same pain, hurt with the same weapons and so on. He justifies his intentions to have vent ion by saying that if a Jew was to wrong to wrong a Christian they would seek revenge and therefore if a Christian was to wrong a Jew he should do the same. We are then left to make our own opinions of Shylock. Shakespeare makes us feel sorry for Shylock and not appearing racist making us feel like he is picked on and that hes the real victim. During the court scene Shylock refuses to show any sign of mercy towards Antonio. Because of that we get the overall impression that he is heartless, self-centred and cruel. Also he enforced his beliefs in his actions towards Jessica from the way he talked about Christians as bad people and stopped her from seeing the partys and other social gatherings, which in the end caused her to run away. Creative writing piece Essay It was a week before Christmas day in the year 1776. The wind was cold and hard as it brushed past my face. I felt a chill run through my spine, but for the glowing sun, the cold would have been unbearable. Why wont God give me a break? , I thought. I was thinking about something, how the problem we were faced with would be solved, even if only temporarily. As the wind rushed by and I stood there thinking deeply, it came to me all of a sudden. After that, I pondered over and over a plan until I had it perfected to the last detail, then I simulated the results in my head. Ninety-nine times out of hundred it failed, but that one time it didnt fail provided me with enough hope. Moreover, you dont undergo a revolution without taking some risks. I thought about how my plan would diminish British and Hessian power and cause them to take us, the Revolution and I, seriously. Just in August I remembered, my army had being exhausted, demoralized and uncertain of its future. We had been invaded by British and Hessian troops and we hadnt been ready for them. We were forced to desperately escape to the island of Manhattan. However, the British had followed us to Manhattan and compelled us to retreat again, this time across the Hudson River to New Jersey. The British had followed in hot pursuit, chasing us through New Jersey and by December had forced us to abandon the state and cross the Delaware into Pennsylvania. They believed they had won, they believed they had crushed the revolution. In my head, I had accepted defeat but in my heart the American pride was hurt. It didnt want to accept defeat, at least not like, by cowering away from our enemies. We needed to stand up, dust ourselves off and give it another go, facing the problem head on, no more running and no more escaping. It was our time to attack! They needed to know that the revolution was more than just an annoyance or small pest. We were the real deal, I thought to myself. Hence I had to mobilize the army fast. A majority of my army were mercenaries and their contracts were to expire at the end of the month to return to their homes. An additional problem was that two of my armies had not made it back yet. I quickly devised a plan. We were going to attack the Hessian-held town of Trenton just across the Delaware River. We planned all week. I had five to six thousand men at my disposal, though many of them were unfit for battle. Even though this was a large number, we had a lot of men who deserted us and left the army and the remaining soldiers were low on morale. Something drastic needed to happen to life the hearts of the soldiers unless the cause was lost, because only I still had the passion and desire burning, and I so desperately wanted to ignite there flames of passion too. Three days before our departure date, a man named Thomas Pain wrote this in his pamphlet called The Crisis; These are the times that try mens souls; the summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of his country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman.
